During World War II, the airport originated as Wampee Flight Strip, an auxiliary landing field built by the United States Army Air Forces. It supported operations for the nearby Myrtle Beach Army Airfield (now the site of Myrtle Beach International Airport, KMYR), serving as a backup or practice strip for military training in the region.

Once Myrtle Beach International opened in 1976 on the old Air Force base site, KCRE shifted to primarily general aviation, where it remains today as a reliever airport with a control tower, ILS approach, and extensive banner towing operations along the coast.

Whether you are a seasoned pilot, new to the world of aviation, or just interested in watching the weather, a METARmaps™ Mini deserves a place of honor on your desk or wall.
